Parlez-vous français?

Seeing as I’ve been spending some time with some French guys, it would have been ludicrous to not take advantage of the situation and try to re-learn the language skills which I seem to have abandoned since the school years. It was probably the most annoying part of their trip but I definitely improved over the days. It gave me a huge desire to be able to speak the language fluently. Since, I have acquired a French poetry book, a French-English dictionary and many French applications on my iPod Read more [...]

Women shouldn’t talk

At one point, I was sat on the back of a motorbike as we were trying to assess the location of our hotel. A drunken man then approached us asking where we were trying  to get to. Being as idiotic as we were, we had absolutely no idea of the name of the hotel in which we checked in. We both started a conversation as to what the hotel might be called when the Indian man pointed and shouted ‘Woman no talk. Only man talk.’ and faced my male companion. I’m sure any woman would feel the exact Read more [...]

Frisbee Fun

On Varkala Beach, we got ourselves involved in a random game of Frisbee. This game involved maybe 12 Frisbees going around at any given point, a bunch of people no one knew names to, accidents and falling over dogs. It was after dark when one guy gave us a Frisbee to keep as a souvenir and future games. So, on another beach, could there be a better possible place to have another game of Frisbee? As we play another game, my lacking skills appear to be slowly improving. A random man gets involved Read more [...]

Plain ignorance and life endangerment

Staying beside another beach, it was impossible for us to keep away from the glorious sea.  Naturally the ‘life guards’ would come running towards you blowing their whistle for you to return to the safety of the sandy ground. I find it the most amusing that they refer to themselves as ‘life guards’ given that they most likely can’t swim and in no way would they even consider entering the water for any reason let alone saving someone’s life. I like to call these men ‘whistle blowers’ Read more [...]

Road trip to Kovalam

So what’s the best way to try and ignore your emotional pain of separation on your dearest travel partner? Maybe rent two manual bikes with the best French guys you will ever meet and go on a random crazy road trip down South on them? Well it seemed to work perfectly for me. Being a mere female (to fellow Indian men), I had obviously never ridden a manual bike and therefore had to teach myself. This was a bumpy and wobbly start but soon led to the feeling of pure control, ultimate freedom and Read more [...]

Goodbye Daniel

So travelling alone you wouldn't think that you would have such an issue with goodbyes as you never stay with someone long enough for there to be a real one, let alone an emotional one. And no matter how much I would love to deny it, I may have shed a tear when my dearest Daniel and I parted ways. We met randomly in the sea in Goa and had since been sharing our traveling experience together. Given that we are both completely different people we were both surprised that we managed to stick together Read more [...]

Varkala Beach

Going to Varkala gave us a pleasant little group of 5 (2 French, 2 English and a German) who all stayed in the same Bamboo Village accommodation as neighbours to each other. With it costing us only 200 Rupees per room, it was dirt cheap and very welcoming. This became our chill out town to relax by the beach, have a couple of drinks and just generally relax till we figured out our next plan, whether it be as a group or not. On our first trip to the beach, all we wanted to do was to jump into the Read more [...]

God works in mysterious ways.

If there is a God, he most certainly knows how to keep individual lives as exciting and unpredictable as possible. I finally get it into my head and onto paper that I am finally over a past love and that I wish for nothing more than to be happy as I am without needing the company of other men. And I am. Well at least I was until life thought that this was the perfect time to find some holiday romance. I find that the world always works like this. As soon as you stop looking for something and Read more [...]

Allons á Alleppy

On three random occasions in and around Ooty, I happened to bump into the same French guys. After a few discussions we all realised that we had the same plan to travel South to Alleppy (Alappuzha) to do the classic overnight boat trip through the river and therefore decided that it would be more fun and so much cheaper if we were to actually plan our next encounter and do it together. So when I was in Kochi they had already arrived and had my accommodation and free transport from the bus station Read more [...]
